                    HMS St George, Portsmouth

HMS St George is a former shore establishment for the Royal Navy, which closed during the 1980s. The site is currently derelict, and may be redeveloped into housing in the future.

The adjacent Fort Cumberland was also originally in use by the Royal Marine Artillery, but was vacated in 1971 and is now an archaelogical centre.

The buildings and beach are currently owned by QinetQ, and though the latter has always been used by the public it is actually private; there are plans by the local community (FBAG) to have it registered and preserved as a public area.

                    How to get here:

                    »

Road: A27 - From the A27 take the junction with the A2030 into Portsmouth. This will eventually leave the coast and bear into town; then turn left into Milton Road (A288). Turn left into Bransbury Road, and at its end turn left into Henderson Road; as this bears right, turn left and right into Fort Cumberland Road and this leads down to the beach next to the gunnery range. Parking: unknown. +

This location is private and has no or limited access only. The camp is private, but it is possible to walk around the outside by the fences
